In the morning of April 5,2009, the Three Gorges Dam crest re-opened to domestic and foreign tourists. Yangtze River Three Gorges Tourism Company said it will implement stricter security screening measures to ensure the security of visitors and the top of the dam after the opening.

Tourists can take the car battery on board the dam, the sluice section of the designated area off to tour, take pictures, stay about 20 minutes.

Last year, the Three Gorges Dam crest for the first time opened to visitors. During the period it ushered in hundreds of thousands of Chinese and foreign tourists. In order to ensure the security of visitors, the Yangtze River Three Gorges Tourism Company implemented a strict security checks. Before they boarded the crest, tourists must go through the same security at the airport gate, and can not bring cameras, umbrellas, beverages and other items. Because of these security measures, top of the dam has no security incidents since it opened to travellers.
